  14. -------------------

  16. This driver simulates pairs of serial ports interconnected by null-modem
  17. cables.  It can be used for testing comm programs and network software, but
  18. the primary motivation was to allow linking network software on an emulated
  19. computer (e.g. Mac emulated by FUSION) to Amiga network software.
  20.  
  21. NOTE:  This is a true null-modem simulation, not a simulation of two modems
  22. connected to each other as in nullmodem.device.
  23.  
  24. The ability to network in this fashion provides a number of benefits,
  25. albeit not at blinding speeds:
  26.  
  27. 1) Emulated and Amiga-native network software can share the same dialup
  28. link.
  29.  
  30. 2) Ethernet cards that don't work correctly under the emulation can be used
  31. via the Amiga's network software.
  32.  
  33. 3) Third-party serial cards that don't work correctly under the emulation
  34. can be used via the Amiga's network sofware.
  35.  
  36. 4) The native serial port can use Miami's built-in driver, which tends to
  37. work better than serial.device or any of its replacements.
  38.  
  39. 5) Incompatibilities between the emulation's Ethernet support and Open
  40. Transport on an emulated Mac don't preclude using Open Transport on the
  41. Amiga's Ethernet.
